Frequently asked questions

How long is JRS Freight auto shipping quote valid?

We recommend booking your auto transport within a few days of receiving your quote as the market and carrier availability changes quickly. You can get a current cost estimate by using our free online quote calculator at any time.

Is it possible to have a guaranteed pickup date when shipping a vehicle?

Yes, we offer our guaranteed pickup service. See our Expedited Car Shipping page for more details. Get in touch via live chat or call (800) 360-1074 to inquire about a specialty vehicle shipment quote.

What is ‘First Available Shipping Date’?

The first available shipping date (FAD) is the first day your vehicle is available to be picked up. Depending on your shipping needs, we have a variety of services including expedited pickup. If you need to update your FAD at any time, contact your JRS Freight representative. For more information about shipment times, click here.

Is it possible to receive a quote without an exact address?

Yes. If you do not know your exact shipment address, contact us to place your order with a representative. You can also get an approximate estimate with our online quote calculator by entering the cities closest to your pickup and drop-off locations.

Is my vehicle insured during the transportation process?

Yes, your vehicle will be covered by the carrier’s cargo insurance. Additionally, JRS Freight has our own contingent cargo insurance which protects your vehicle for up to $250,000 should the trucker’s policy fail to fully cover a valid claim.

What steps should I take to prepare my vehicle for transport?

Have keys ready: You are expected to provide a set of keys to the trucker at vehicle pickup.

Wash your vehicle: It’s suggested you wash your vehicle prior to pickup. This makes it easier for you and the trucker to inspect your car for any scratches, dents, etc. You’ll sign the Bill of Lading (BOL) with this inspection at pickup and delivery.

Fuel levels: Make sure your gas tank is about 1/4 full. A full tank adds weight to your vehicle and the car carrier. Electric vehicles must have between 45-65% charged battery.

Exterior: Retract or remove your antenna and place it in your trunk. Remove your bike rack and any aftermarket accessories. Remove valuables and personal items: Remove vehicle add-ons such as custom stereos and GPS systems. You are allowed one box or suitcase weighing less than 100lbs in the truck or storage area.

Parking passes/toll tags: Remove all passes or tags to avoid fees as your car passes through tolls. You’ll be responsible for resolving any fees incurred during transport.

Can I modify my First Available Shipping Date when shipping my vehicle?

If you need to update your timeframe at any time, contact your JRS Freight representative.

What is a Bill of Lading (BOL)?

In the auto transport industry, the Bill of Lading (BOL) is used to record the vehicle’s condition at the time of pickup and delivery. For that reason, the BOL is the most important document during the transport process. Before signing any BOL, please ensure that you are comfortable with the noted condition of the vehicle.

What is top load placement?

Top loading is the practice of placing a vehicle on the top level (deck) of the transport truck. A top load is a preference for some as it helps protect vehicles from fluid leaks. It may also help protect from other road hazards and debris. If you have a preference for a top load, we can arrange this for an additional fee. Make sure to discuss these arrangements with your representative at the time of booking. Note that a trailer with a single deck is still considered a top load as it ensures there will be no vehicles above yours. It is possible the truck driver may not be able to accommodate a top load request for safety or legal reasons. In such cases, the fee will be waived or refunded.

How can I monitor my vehicle’s location while it’s being transported?

For the most accurate, real-time location information on your shipment, directly contact your trucker for updates or call JRS Freight at (800) 360-1074.
